The mc² – Mobile Cloud Computing group at Aalto University invites applications for doctoral candidate position in a multidisciplinary Personalized virtual stroke rehabilitation research project.

Job description
In this position, you will do research and doctoral studies on simulation-based design of personalized smart gloves for virtual stroke rehabilitation. The smart gloves made of e-textiles are supposed to support precise finger positioning, fine-grained human-object interaction detection, and haptic interaction with virtual reality. You will contribute to the development of a design toolkit that optimizes the selection and spatial distribution of sensor modalities, generates synthetic sensor data using physical simulators, and trains customized machine learning models using synthetic sensor data.

You will join an active research group, whose research is closely linked to our industrial and academic partners. Our target is that you will acquire the doctoral degree in four years.

You have a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Robotic Engineering, or Electrical Engineering. You have basic knowledge about machine learning and strong programming skills. Experience with electronic design or interaction design is considered as a plus. We expect you to be open-minded for new research, eager to learn more, and fit to teamwork.

Salary, contract terms and work environment
The expected starting salary for a doctoral candidate is approximately 2500 €/month and salary will increase with responsibilities and performance over time. Preferable starting time is Jan 1, 2021.
