About the role:

The School of Physics is inviting suitably qualified PhD applicants to the Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Nuclear Organisation position at the University of Melbourne.

This Postdoctoral Research Fellow position requires the successful applicant to participate in a vigorous project that aims to investigate the role of nuclear architecture in regulating genome function.  By use of fluorescence microscopy methods which can quantify the diffusive route of transcription factors in live cells, this project expects to uncover how the nucleus is spatially compartmentalized and identify the structural features of chromatin organisation that control nuclear traffic.  The successful applicant will ideally have skills in cell biology, fluorescence microscopy and data analysis.  The position will involve preparing the research outputs into manuscripts and oral presentations, as well as co-supervision of research students.

About you:

  • A PhD in physics, biophysics, biochemistry, molecular or cell biology
  • Experience in routine methods employed in molecular biology and a demonstrated ability in fluorescence microscopy (in particular fluorescence correlation spectroscopy)
  • Experience in quantitative data analysis
  • Excellent ability to work co-operatively and positively in a multi-disciplinary research-based team environment and liaise with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Demonstrable skills in initiative and commitment to achieving scientific goals
  • Demonstrated ability to work with people from diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Demonstrated experience in spatiotemporal correlation spectroscopy, fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy and super-resolution microscopy
  • Demonstrated interest in chromatin biology and 3D genome organisation
  • Experience in quantitative modelling and fitting of biological data
